Java with Joe We provide hospitality by serving refreshments and encourage a spirit of community in the Narthex after Masses. If you have a welcoming spirit, a desire to meet others and to serve refreshments please join us! Assistance with this ministry is welcomed. Landscape Volunteers Every spring we utilize the help of volunteers to beautify the plantings and grounds all around St. Joseph Church property. It is said that: “God is closer to us in a garden than anywhere else on earth.” This important ministry helps our property inspire our parishioners as well as become an attractive addition to the downtown community of Libertyville. Training is provided. Marriage Enrichment Our mission is to provide opportunities and encourage married couples to set aside time to strengthen and nourish their marriage. We do this through a variety of events and programs, that can be spiritual, social and/or sacramental in nature. This is an opportunity for married couples to serve together and to join with other couples to plan retreats, speakers and programs such as 10 Great Dates, 5 Love Languages and the Valentine’s Day Dance. Team leaders are Father Val and Bob Vehlow. Mothers With Young Children Mothers with Young Children is a social support group that regularly convenes for the sharing of conversation, information, commiseration and community. Our children, birth to school age, attend with us as we promote an atmosphere of hospitality and participation. We honor parenting as a principal vocation and we respect and reverence the hard work, joy, adjustment, humor, and challenges our roles bring. In our meetings we discuss the varying realities of family life through guest speakers and workshops that aid and compliment our goals. Through fundraising efforts, MYC is able to provide support to several local charities each year. We also have a lot of fun with the many planned events for Ladies, Couples & Family. Mothers with Young Children Drop-in Play Group Name Tag Sunday Once a month in conjunction with Java with Joe we offer name tags to all who attend Mass. If you have a welcoming spirit and a desire to meet others and to serve please join us! This is a great ministry for all - singles, couples, families. Neighborhood Joe! Parishioners gather in their neighborhoods to meet, become acquainted, to experience welcoming and hospitality and to build Christian community so that our large parish becomes “smaller”. We seek parish members who are willing to serve on the coordinating team, as facilitators or to host a gathering in their neighborhood. All that is required of the host is to open your home and provide light refreshments. The gathering is organized by the parish and facilitated by trained volunteers. Ideas are shared on possible future gatherings; the next steps are determined by the group. Scouts The Parish offers Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadet and Senior Girl Scout troops. Cub Scout Pack 60 and Boy Scout Troop 60 offer a year-round program of activities and camping for boys. Welcoming Committee Our mission is to warmly welcome those who join our parish and to make our faith community more intimate and personal. We welcome and invite our new parishioners to a quarterly welcoming dinner or breakfast and host the event. “Welcome one another just as you would welcome Christ.” (Romans 15.7) Women’s Guild of the Blessed Virgin Mary The goal of the Guild of the Blessed Virgin is to provide an atmosphere that supports spiritual growth as well as the opportunity to meet other parish women. The Guild is one facet of St. Joseph's large and diverse parish Life. It is an organization with many social, spiritual and service opportunities. All are welcome to attend our board meetings at 9:00 a.m. the second Wednesday of the month in the Loughry Room, September through May. Rosary Makers This group of volunteers meets twice a month on Tuesday afternoons to assemble rosaries for missions and other special requests. Youth Ministry Youth Ministry focuses on providing post-confirmation and high school students with opportunities to engage in parish life and grow in faith as part of a young, Catholic community. As the needs of our young parishioners change and grow, Youth Ministry, too, is changing and growing. If you are a teenager or parent who would like to learn more about established and upcoming opportunities within Youth Ministry visit the Youth Ministry Overview page. Our young parishioners need committed adult companions to join and support them in ministry. Depending on your unique gifts and talents, you can minister to the youth of St. Joe’s in a variety of ways.
