Read the Bishop's Pastorial Letter on Marriage

The letter is the centerpiece of the National Pastoral Initiative for Marriage, a Bishops' effort that began nearly five years ago to promote, strengthen and protect marriage. The letter looks at marriage as both a natural and supernatural gift from God. It will be the theological foundation for the Bishops' efforts to promote healthy marriages and to protect marriage against attempts to redefine it. To read the letter, please click here.

Upcoming Marriage Enrichment Events:

Starting this fall, we are planning a new date night program entitled 6 Dates for Catholic Couples.  The format will be similar to the 10 Great Dates format in that they will be on Sat. nights after the 5:00 Mass with a short 20 - 25 min. presentation followed by a date with your spouse.  The topics center around our Catholic Faith and the Sacrament of Marriage and are entertaining. Cost for the program which includes John Bosio's book "Happy Together" and date materials is $25. The dates for the program are listed below.  Click here for the registration form which can be dropped off at the parish or                                emailed to: marriageenrichment@st.joseph-libertyville.org.

Successful marriages don’t work on automatic pilot – at least not for long. Like a garden, they require constant attention: fertilizing, watering, and weeding. Healthy marriages, like gardens, don’t die suddenly. More often they fade away from a gradual lack of attentiveness, letting things slide, taking each other for granted.

Successful marriages don’t work on automatic pilot – at least not for long.

It doesn’t have to be that way. In this section we’ll look at how to care for your marriage:

Forgiveness Fundamentals

Couples often find it easy to slide into conflict, but not so easy to forgive and reconcile with each other. How can spouses learn to forgive and move beyond the hurts caused by conflict? Here are seven “forgiveness fundamentals” that will help you to get started.

Preparing for an upcoming Marriage?
(see the FAQ page for more information)

Congratulations!  Please contact the parish office as soon as you are engaged.  4 months is usually required for marriage preparation.  Pre-Cana session and Foccus (Facilitating Open Couple Communication and Study) is required for St. Joseph engaged couples.  The first step is to contact the priest or deacon of your choice to set your date and do the initial paperwork and interview.
