Larry Johnson, the vice-chair of Accountability Commission
During the Year of Saint Joseph, and especially the month of March, we honor Saint Joseph for being obedient to God the Father’s call to be the protector, provider, and steward of the Holy Family.
God’s messenger told him in a dream, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:20-21, NABRE). And we read that he did as told.
After the birth of Jesus, Joseph is warned by the angel of the Lord in a dream , “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.” (Matthew 2:13, NABRE). And we read that he immediately rose, took Jesus and Mary, and departed for Egypt.
Throughout his remaining life, Saint Joseph worked to provide a good home for his family; a home in which he helped guide Jesus to maturity and wisdom, and readiness for his mission.
Through the generosity of parish members and the guidance of the Accountability Commission, St. Joseph Church has likewise been a good protector and steward of our spiritual home.
Many projects have been completed over the last 6 years, with the oversight of the Facilities Committee, Accountability Commission, that enhance the safety and security of our school, our church building and the commercial properties, and achieved greater energy efficiency. While not an exhaustive list, these projects included:
Security cameras throughout the properties
Upgraded external and internal LED lighting
Card access systems
“911” Panic buttons
Repairs to a school hallway foundation to keep children, staff and visitors safe
New roofs, new HVAC systems
Over the last year, the Finance Committee, Accountability Commission has helped facilitate initiatives in response to the pandemic, to ensure that the vital functions of our Church and school continue.
iPads and Chromebooks for student remote learning
COVID supplies to ensure social distancing, masking and sanitation at school and for liturgy re-openings
Enhanced Internet and Wi-Fi connectivity
Capabilities for live streaming Masses and other events, including a new control room in the Sanctuary for operating the audio/video streaming equipment
Major expansion and upgrades of the Food Pantry space and equipment to serve many more families in need
All these improvements were made possible by the continued generosity of all of you, our parish members. We are grateful beyond words to express that you have continued your financial support of St. Joseph and its mission. You should feel satisfaction that you have contributed to the safety, peace, and social justice of our community. THANK YOU! You can be assured that we have and will continue to be good stewards of the resources you have provided to Saint Joseph Church.
