Employment Ministry

The St. Joseph Employment Ministry assists the unemployed and under-employed in the pursuit of fulfilling employment opportunities. Anyone with an interest in assisting job-seekers is also welcome. Our sessions are free, and all are welcome. We invite anyone who is

1) Looking for a job or
2) Just thinking about a job change

to join us at a meeting to see how we might help you. 
It does take some time to develop a solid “toolkit”, and an early start gets you well-prepared.

When you lose your job, it’s important to understand: 

1) You are not alone.

2) There are people who understand, care and are ready to help. 

3) There’s no shame in losing your job.  Job transition is a fact of life. Restructurings happen all the time. On average, people now change jobs every 3-4 years, and change entire careers 3-7 times over their lifetime.

4) You’re not a failure because you lost your job. You still have the same skills and abilities that you had the day before you left your position. 

5) To land a new job, you need to develop a solid strategy and a specific ‘toolkit.’ Including elements like:  Resume Preparation, Effective Networking, Using LinkedIn and Interviewing techniques.

6) Networking is the “secret sauce”. (70 - 85% of all jobs are filled via networking)

Every person on that list has been in the same job search situation that you are in, and "gets it".  Get feedback on your resume, practice your "Elevator Speech“, and ask for advice and information about your target company/industry.  Ask for personal referrals to people who can share information and advice, or who may help you get another referral to get you closer to that hiring manager.
