Recently, there has been much publicity about Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, and its call to improve the environment all over the world.
In response this, St. Joseph’s Food Pantry Gardens is asking local gardeners to commit a portion of this season’s vegetable harvest to the St. Joseph Food Pantry. The need is great as the Food Pantry has over 1,000 families registered and is open for 6 days a week.
Here’s how it works: To be a member of the St. Joseph Garden Club and to receive useful gardening tip. You won’t be asked to donate a specific amount or type of vegetable, but we ask you to donate and deliver a fair portion of your garden’s abundance to the Food Pantry located in the strip mall at 112 North Milwaukee Ave. in the Formation Center, located South of the church.
No donation is too small. It can be a couple tomatoes or a bushel of produce. We will email the participants offering tips and the opportunity to get questions addressed by the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners.
Our goal is to engage 50 participants in this work of mercy, a simple way to help those in need.
