The third chapter in the Old Testament Book of Ecclesiastes says it well: “There is an appointed time for everything under the heavens.” Those of us old enough to remember, the 1965 song by a group called the Byrds—“Turn, Turn, Turn” —takes this same reading and turns it into music. This song is a wonderful piece of music and inspiring words for me on a very personal level. Chapter Three of Ecclesiastes in its entirety has deep meaning for each of us in our daily lives. Please consider reading it again and again.
For me and my family, the appointed time is now. After much prayer and discernment, and after deep prayer and discussion with Mary and my children, I have decided that it is time to leave my position as Pastoral Director of Ministries at St. Joseph. This decision did not come easily but in the end, it is the right one. As of July 31, I will leave the position and after a few more baptismal commitments, I will also be taking a sabbatical from my Diaconate Ministry. I plan to return to St. Joseph Catholic Church in early 2021 and reengage in ministry. It has been a wonderful five years as the Pastoral Director of Ministries and I believe that our staff has accomplished many good things during this time. I will walk away quietly and look forward to seeing everyone soon. I thank you for your support and prayers and will pray for our parish all of the time. So this is not “good-bye” but “so long for a brief time”. And remember, there is a time for everything under the heavens.
