Franciscan Outreach continues to vigorously pursue its mission to provide shelter and a path forward to Chicago’s most challenged homeless. As one of the largest providers of such services in the Chicago area, its importance has never been greater during the pandemic. The numbers can be staggering:
4,198 unique guests served, all reporting little to no income, and 85% people of color
118,261 nights of shelter provided
282,032 healthy meals served
3,319 guests accessing case management services
935 guests who received a CES Housing Assessment
68 guests transitioned to permanent housing
From the FO summer 2001 newsletter: Like many organizations, Franciscan Outreach believes in a Housing First model that strives to connect men and women to housing as quickly as possible and without prerequisites, Having a home is a foundational component toward independence and it is our commitment to ensure a positive path for all our guests so they can gain stability and thrive in permanent housing. This is our vision for every guest that walks through our doors, but we cannot do this work without the generous support of people like you! And “people like you” are the generous parishioners of St. Joseph Church. For over 30 years our parish has provided thousands of volunteer hours, food, clothing, supplies, and financial assistance. That generosity was on display this past month as we conducted the annual toiletry drive and candy collection for the shelter. Thank you to all who donated. With the extra burdens of Covid-19 still being felt, your financial support is more important than ever. Visit their website at www.franoutreach.org to make a donation. Consider becoming one of the Heroes Against Homelessness with a “dependable dollars” contribution.
