Dear St. Joseph Community,
As a result of your support this Lent and during these last years, the story below has a happy ending.
This winter, a young man named Jhon fled violence in Venezuela at 17 and escaped alone to the U.S. border. He arrived at the U.S. border and was placed into a government-funded shelter for youth immigrants. He has no family in the U.S. with whom to live. So he faced the prospect of being homeless or put into a temporary shelter on his 18th birthday.
That's where Viator House and your support made for a happy ending.
Advocates working with Jhon reached out to us. And two Thursdays ago Jhon arrived at O'Hare, where I greeted him and brought him to his new home, Viator House of Hospitality, where he is safe, learning English and in touch with his family back home.
Jhon is the 100th young male asylum-seeker we have welcomed since opening in 2017. We are only able to provide a safe home for young men who have fled home alone because people like you support us. Your Lenten donation raised more than $2,000 - which will feed our 21 young men from 12 nations for a month.
God bless you. You are proof Christ has risen and that God cares for the most forgotten.
