The activity at our Food Pantry continues to demonstrate the real need in our community for this service. Our parishioners have been very generous. During the week of October 5 we received 37 carts of food and household items. We estimate the weight of the donations at around 1,110 pounds with a value of around $1,931. During the 4 days the food pantry was open we received the services of an average of 10 volunteers per day. The volunteers are being cautious. Everyone wears a mask and gloves are available. Visitors are required to wear masks and every effort is being made to observe social distancing. To conserve our resources we limit visits to once a week per person. Also, we do set limits on food items so that our resources remain available to everyone who needs them. We stock our shelves with 88 items. As of Friday we are in need of 21 items which are listed in the Carpenter and the on-line bulletins. Our primary source of supplies has been the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB). The home office is in Geneva, Illinois. The branch that supplies our pantry is in Park City. They provide us a delivery once a month but we do visit the facility once a week. The volunteer in charge of ordering supplies is Dennis Moffatt. Because of his efforts we have been able to stock our shelves at minimal cost. During September NIFB provided us 9,838 Lbs of food and supplies (4.92 tons) for a nominal cost of $1,452 or 15 cents per pound. We are thankful to everyone including Staff, Volunteers, Parishioners and the NIFB for making the food pantry a success. Ted Bond, Sr., Inventory and Communications Volunteer
