Welcome, Mary Catherine Nelson

Hello St. Joseph Parish!  My name is Mary Catherine Nelson and I am excited to be the new Director of Children's Faith Formation.  Coming here to St. Joseph’s feels like coming home.  My grandparents, Paul & Marcie McCarthy were long time parishioners.  My Mother, Jane, & her sister, Mary, went to school here and eventually both were married here!  My cousin Helene had all three children baptized here.  My Aunt Mary has since moved back into the area and comes to Sunday Mass with Helene.  Growing up, whenever we would visit family, this was our parish.  I may not know you, but that just means we are family that haven’t met each other yet!

I have worked in the archdiocese of Chicago for going on 20 years now and it truly is my passion.  I come with a unique educational background in that I have three advanced degrees including Developmental Genetics, and MBA and a masters in Religious Education.  It sounds like a lot, but you should see my student loans!  I also lived on a sailboat for three years when my father’s job moved us to the Bay Area in California.  I will admit, having a 6 foot v-berth is not an easy thing for a 17 year old female!  However, throughout my educational life as well as what type of places I’ve called home, I have become nothing if not flexible.

I have so blessed to be here and to help share the love of God with everyone!
