We are thrilled to welcome Fr. Kevin Feeney to our parish community! Fr. Kevin brings with him a wealth of experience, a deep commitment to ministry, and a genuine joy for being a part of parish life.
Fr. Kevin was born in 1951 on the West Side of Chicago at St. Anne’s Hospital and was baptized at the former St. Lucy Church. His journey toward priesthood began in the 7th grade at St. Leonard School, which led him to study at Quigley South, Niles College of Loyola, and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He was ordained in 1977 by Cardinal Cody. Since then, he has faithfully served at several parishes, including Epiphany Parish, St. Sylvester Parish, and at Mundelein Seminary in various roles, including Director of Spiritual Life and Dean of Formation. He also served as the Director Chaplain at the Sheil Catholic Center at Northwestern University. Most recently, Fr. Kevin has been the Director of the Joseph and Mary Retreat House.
Fr. Kevin’s path to St. Joseph comes as the retreat house is being put on a temporary "pause" for renovations and fundraising. The Retreat House, a seventy-five-year-old building, needs significant work, including installing a modern fire alarm and sprinkler system. During this time, Fr. Kevin will continue as the Director of the Retreat House and oversee the retreats that have been relocated to the USML Conference Center.
Fr. Kevin is excited to be part of the St. Joseph community, sharing life and ministry with a wonderful group of priests and connecting with our vibrant parish community. "I am looking forward to learning new things, and praying with the parish, particularly on Fridays at 6:30 AM and Saturdays at 8:30 AM," he shares. His joy and gratitude for this new chapter are evident: "Please know that I am happy and very grateful to be here."
When Fr. Kevin isn't engaged in ministry, he enjoys a variety of hobbies, from walking, golfing (which he humorously calls "a ruined walk"), playing the guitar, singing, writing, and reading, to cycling – though not all at once, he assures us! He is also considering trying his hand at gardening here at St. Joseph and would love any tips from seasoned gardeners.
Fr. Kevin brings a light-hearted spirit, a love for community, and a deep dedication to his calling. A fun fact about him: he owns a Northwestern Wildcats football helmet signed by Coach Fitzgerald. Though he jokes it no longer fits his head, he cherishes it as a special keepsake.
We are blessed to have Fr. Kevin with us and look forward to the many ways he will enrich our parish community with his wisdom, warmth, and humor. Welcome, Fr. Kevin Feeney!
