January 16, 2018World Day for Consecrated Life will be celebrated in the Church on Friday, February 2, 2018 and in parishes on the weekend of February 3-4, 2018. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God's gift of their vocation.
Despite what our culture leads us to believe, vocation is not self-chosen. That is to say, we do not choose our vocations. We are called to them. There is a big difference.God has blessed each of us with specific talents, which you are to understand are His gifts. You have a specific personality, with interests, likes, and dislikes that not everyone shares. This is the bountifulness of God’s creation; that no two people are exactly alike- just like snowflakes, or the patterns in a leaf. Each is customized by God.
Vocations are likewise unique, with no two people taking up exactly the same space in the family, the nation, the church, or the workplace. Finding your vocation, has to do in part, with finding your God-given talents and your God-given personality. This means matching up the talents God has blessed you with to your individual personality and what suits you.

“The heart of a man plans his way,” says Solomon, “but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). We are to plan in the here and now, but we can do so in the confidence that the Lord is acting in our lives and in our circumstances, calling us to His purpose.
