As a teenager, Lewis fled his West African homeland for the U.S. after being beaten and jailed for protesting against his government. His family helped him fly to South America, where he began a dangerous journey by foot, bus and boat to the U.S./Mexico border. There, as a 17-year-old so far from home, he asked for asylum.
Due to the pandemic, all PADS homeless shelter sites were closed last winter and our clients have been housed in hotels since March, 2020. At this time, it appears that we will continue to house some clients in hotels, specifically families with young and health issues. Our hope is that we will be able to open the shelter sites in October for those who are vaccinated and healthy.
Lake County United Update Members of Lake County United work as agents for change on issues that most impact the people of Lake County. They are able to accomplish this mission thanks to the generous support from the community. Volunteers donate time, resources, supplies, and answer the call what is needed.

Christmas came early for day laborers/jornaleros receiving much-needed winter clothing on December 7th. Thank you to all who generously donated clothes for the poor.
